Only A Rivet
The wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, . . . without partiality and without hypocrisy. —James 3:17
Scientists have determined that faulty rivets may have caused the rapid sinking of the "unsinkable" HMS Titanic. According to researchers who recently examined parts recovered from the wreck, impure rivets made of wrought iron rather than steel caused the ship’s hull to open like a zipper. The Titanic proves the foolishness of spending resources on fancy equipment and public promotion while neglecting the "ordinary" parts.
In a sense, churches are like ships, and many of their people are like rivets. Although rivets seem insignificant, they are essential for holding the ship together and keeping it afloat.
Feelings of insignificance are rampant these days, even among Christians, and some do hurtful things to make themselves feel important. James says, "Where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there" (3:16). People corrupted by worldly desires for beauty, wealth, and power can bring down great churches, but people who are pure and undefiled (1:27) hold churches together.
As members of God’s church, we need to be "rivets" without defect. When we are pure (James 3:17), strong (Eph. 6:10), and steadfast (1 Cor. 15:58), we will be used by the Lord to keep His ship afloat in times of crisis. —Julie Ackerman Link
The task Thy wisdom hath assigned, O let me cheerfully fulfill; In all my works Thy presence find, And prove Thy good and perfect will. —Wesley
It is a great thing to be faithful in little things.
Bay Shore Family Camp July 26-August 1 Nightly Services at 7:00 PM Evangelist Tom Harmon Tom Harmon played four years of college football, and graduated with a bachelor of science degree. In 1973 he graduated from the Michigan State Police Academy and was a trooper for eleven years. In 1984 he sensed God's call to preach and resigned from the department. He pastored a small church north of Lansing for four years and has been a full time itinerant preacher speaking in churches, camps, and Bible conferences for the past seventeen years. His life verse is Philippians 3:10 "That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformable unto His death." Tom's schedule for 2008 is full. Most of the time 5 or 6 engagements each month. He and his wife Joyce have 4 children and 17 grandchildren. All of his children love the Lord and every grandchild has been committed to the Lord before they are born. Click on Tom's website. You will be blessed. www.tdharmon.com/

MISSION OUTREACH
Our church has a small church in Liberia assigned to us for prayer and support. It is the Gwisswen UM Church in Grand Gedeh District and the Pastor's name is Rev. Samson Dartu. Above is The Nana Kru Guest House needing repair which is the focus of a planned Mission trip to Liberia in October. There is still a spot for three lay people. Meanwhile the Port Huron District is hoping to raise $30,000 to take with them as a mission gift to help with the great need that exists there. To reach this goal will only require $5.00 per member. The Nana Kru Guest House was damaged from the war. Offerings are needed for them to obtain the material before the rainy season starts. Anyone interested in going please Contact the Port Huron District Office for more information. The phone number is 810 385 8840
