United Methodist Women have an ongoing Mission outreach throughout the year with a membership of 32. Meetings are held bimonthly with a special Prayer and Self Denial program each year at which time a special offering is given which is used to help finance women and children needs in poverty areas of the world. Members particiapate in a Secret Sister program with a catered dinner in October. A reading program is also encouraged. During the year health, sewing and school kits are put together and in October they are taken to the District meeting to later be shipped to a distribution point where they are then sent to wherever there is a need.
Below for your convenience are listed the 2009 items needed for Health, School and Sewing Kits. A drive is made annually in October for these kits and over 1000 were made by members from the Port Huron District in 2008. This is an ongoing year around outreach in which the UMW is involved. LIBERIA
Below is a letter from Rev. Morrison Wleh in Liberia. He is one of our main contacts in that country.
Dear Rev. Paige:Greetings in Christ.
We had a very successful annual conference with many delegates from the following confernces: Oklahoma, Detroit, Holston, Norway, Germany, the Newly elected Bishop of Sierra Leone Conference and the former Bishop of LAC, the Rev. Dr. Bannie D. Warner.

On Sunday evening, 22nd of February, I will be taking back Nana Kru delegations to Sinoe with our newly purchased vehicle(Used) with funds from the Vermilion River District. Then be back on Wednesday, February 25 for cabinet meeting on 27 of February with the Bishop. I will inform the district of your departure as district superintendent at our fisrt gathering in March and the people will not be happy. But this how the UMC works. All what you need to do is praying for one another for a successful ministry, good health and long life. Indeed, we will surely miss you as DS but not as personal friend. |
Mary and the children are doing well and God grace is with us always. Sad news from the conference: At the end of our conference, rogue broke into the room through the window in Gbarnga and took away my camera, conference documents, including 2 cell phones. Anyway, the case was reported to the local CID in Gbarnga. Whatever it was, we pray God because my life was at risk at that moment.
May God guide us always as we do ministry together.
Your brother in Christ,
Morrison
Heritage and Liberia
Heritage has always been interested and involved in the church in Liberia. Now we have been assigned a specific church in that Country. It is the Gwissken UM church in Grand Gedeh county which appears to be one of the largest counties in Liberia. This country is located on the western coast of Africa on the Atlantic Ocean. Due to a long civil war now over, in many parts of the country there is a lack of running water and electricity. We ask for prayers for the sister church we have been assigned and for the Pastor of this church, Rev. Samson Dartu. Also pray for the new leader of Liberia, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf. She is the first woman to be elected the leader of an African nation. She is a Harvard-educated banker and so, her supporters say she was the perfect person to get the economy of Liberia up and running. Our District raised a total of $25,073.13 for Liberia and it has been sent to the Liberia Annual Conference of Grand Gedeh, Nana Kru and Sinoe districts. time.

KRUEGER'S MISSION LETTER January- 2010
Dear friends and family,    We don't know where to begin this letter so probably the best place to start is the beginning.  We have been involved in a very hectic schedule the past three months.  In our ministry, we were involved in several different areas of ministry.  We held three different eyeglass clinics in three different towns during that time with the result being that over 300 people received some type of verbal and visible witness of the love of Jesus and also received a scripture portion to take home and read     Dee was involved with her English classes and Oral Bible preparation work.  She was able to use a very simple method of Christmas cookies that were the different symbols of Christ's birth to tell the Gospel to our friends and her English class students.  They were very receptive to that way of hearing the good news at this holiday season. We also have been busy helping to get preparations done for the short wave radio transmitter that will be built here in our town so that they can rebroadcast the programming from our FM station in Conakry to all of the rest of the country.  J.D. (our colleague) has been working on the preparation of the property for the installation and Mark has been helping to get the technical aspects of the signal transmission in place.
We were kept busy with activities right up to our departure for our six month home assignment on December 19th.  Due to the inclement weather in New York, we ended up taking four days to travel home and lost our luggage for a week.  However, we did make it safe and sound and our luggage eventually showed up without damage or theft.  We are now taking two weeks to make the rounds of seeing our kids and other family members before heading off on our speaking tours.  This time we will be speaking in the Midwest district of the C&MA specifically in the state of Indiana.  Then we will finish our tour schedule by speaking for about two weeks in the New York city area among the Eastern Spanish district churches there. (No, we haven't learned Spanish but this district desires to partner with our Guinea field.) Following those engagements, we hope to be in our own home in Fla. for at least a few weeks.
Some have been wondering about the political climate in
Guinea
.  All we can say is that life goes on for the normal citizen as they just try to make their daily bread.  Eventually there will be some sort of change that will happen, either peacefully or through violence.  Our prayers are that God will be glorified in this political quandary that they're in so that our people  will be kept safe.
We have taken advantage of the fast internet here in the U.S. to upload a video of our medical ministries in Guinea to Mark's Facebook page so if you would like to see that here is the link for it:

Please feel free to send us an email if you would like to get in contact with us while we are home till the end of June.  May God bless and keep you as you start out this new year of 2010.

Prayer requests:
1.  Pray that we will hear and pass on God's messages to the churches that we minister in during the next three months.
2.  Pray that God will enable the work on the new radio transmitter to be completed by the end of March and that He will keep the short term teams safe that come to work on it.
3.  Pray for wisdom as we consider taking on new interns and apprentices to work with us in Timbi.
4.  Pray for our daughter Rebekah as she prepares to leave for a three month study abroad tour of New Zeeland, Fiji islands, Australia and China.
5.  Pray that God will intervene in the political situation in Guinea to bring about peaceful elections and transition of goverment.

Through Christ's love,
Mark & Dee Krueger

RED BIRD MISSION
"A Witness for Christ in the Heart of Appalachia"
Red Bird mission is an agency in the Red Bird Missionary Conference related to the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church. The Mission was founded in 1921 on the Red Bird River in Bell County, Kentucky to serve residents of Clay, Leslie and Bell counties. Red Bird Mission provides Educational, Health and Wellness, Community Outreach, Community Housing Improvement, and Economic Opportunities to the elderly, low-income and those in need.
Students are given the opportunity to learn in a positive school environment that is staffed with teachers that have a heart for mission. This attitude is introduced in early Childhood Development and continues through Elementary, Middle and High School. Students take courses that include advanced math and science courses, business technology, industrial technology, Spanish art, and music courses that include band and choir. They have the opportunity to participate in all the extracurricular activities that are available to all other schools. Christian Education courses and programs are integrated into the curriculum of all grades. Bible stories, courses, devotions, chapel services, and special programs are used for this training. The goal of Red Bird Mission is to educate a student in body, mind, and spirit to be a productive person equipped to bring change into the lives of others. Prayers and volunteer's are greately appreciated.
